As the global COVID-19 tally reaches 2.7 million, the president of the USA, Donald Trump came forward in yet another solution for the pandemic. Trump, who faced severe criticism from health experts around the globe by suggesting Chloroquine pitched the benefits of sunlight and humidity to tackle the virus.
Meanwhile, past studies of the experts have already concluded that warm weather will do little to diminish the virus.
William Bryan, head of science and technology at the Department of Homeland Security, also seconded the president and said that recent researches show that solar light can play a vital role in tackling the likes of coronavirus. Justifying his claim, he added, “A biocontainment lab in Maryland has been conducting testing on the virus since February”. He emphasized further that “the virus is dying at a much more rapid pace just from exposure to higher temperatures and just from exposure to humidity”.
While giving daily briefing President Trump said: “I’m here to present ideas because we want ideas to get rid of this thing. And if heat is good, and if sunlight is good, that’s a great thing as far as I’m concerned,”
While on the other hand, doctors and physicians came forward to oppose yet another claim of Donald Trump.
“This notion of injecting or ingesting any cleansing product into the body is irresponsible, and it’s dangerous. It’s a common method that people utilize when they want to kill themselves.”, said Dr Vin Gupta, a leading Pulmonologist, told NBC news.
Another doctor, Kashif Mahmood based in Charleston, West Virginia tweeted and criticised the president for being too ignorant and ill-informed about the virus as he wrote: “Donald Trump knows less about medicine than a kindergartner”
Another medic John Balmes openly criticized the radical ideas of Trump and stressed, “Inhaling chlorine bleach would be absolutely the worst thing for the lungs. The airway and lungs are not made to be exposed to even an aerosol of disinfectant.”
Given the condition that the countries which are already having summer, like Australia and Iran, are reporting huge spikes in coronavirus tally on daily bases, it will be a non-sense to assume that warm weathers will help us to tackle the virus.
Dr Michael Ryan, the WHO emergencies chief said in March: “We have to assume that the virus will continue to have the capacity to spread, and its a false hope to say yes, it will just disappear in the summertime like influenza.”
The ignorance of Donald Trump is not new over the virus. He has already called the disease “Chinese Virus”, and he is already urging the countries to reopen the economies. One of the top-ranked doctors has already been removed for not agreeing with Trump’s statement about Chloroquine
Just like every other pandemic in the previous times, the second wave of the virus will emerge as we just saw in China that how the second wave has started to influence the people once again. Perhaps the only solution in the current scenario is to make sure the social distancing because this seems to be the only way out of the worst pandemic in recent times.
